ABOUT JON
Jon Alvord is an award-winning Visual Effects Supervisor and Creative Producer with over three decades of experience bringing ambitious creative visions to life. Whether working on Hollywood blockbusters, national commercials, or festival-celebrated independent films, Alvord is known for his innovative problem-solving, budget-conscious strategies, and deep expertise across all phases of production.
Alvord’s career began in 1987 as a Special Effects Makeup Artist, training under Academy Award winners Bill Tuttle and Dick Smith. His early hands-on work on projects like Morton & Hayes and Space Rangers confirmed his love for storytelling, which he pursued at University of Southern California’s film school. There, he discovered a passion for editing, leading to over 20 years in post-production and groundbreaking roles such as Senior Avid Visual Effects Editor at
Cinesite Digital Studios. At Cinesite, Alvord worked on over 40 films, including iconic titles like Armageddon, X-Men, and Thirteen Days.
In the early 2000s, Alvord expanded his skillset, collaborating with Troublemaker Studios on visionary projects like Sin City, Spy Kids 3D, and Grindhouse: Planet Terror. His ability to seamlessly blend on-set compositing with cutting-edge visual effects set a new standard for previsualization workflows.
A highlight of Alvord’s career came in 2008 when he earned Emmy recognition for his work on HBO’s John Adams, where his contributions to the groundbreaking visual effects helped define the series’ cinematic appeal.
Beyond his film work, Alvord has dedicated part of his career to education, shaping future filmmakers as a Professor of Film & Television at Savannah College of Art & Design. His leadership helped elevate SCAD’s film program into one of the top 25 globally, while mentoring students whose films earned recognition at festivals like Tribeca, Sundance, and SXSW.
Currently, Alvord serves as Visual Effects Supervisor at Epic Shepherd, contributing to high-profile projects for the NFL, Amazon, Paramount+, and Apple TV+. With credits spanning everything from world premieres at Tribeca to critically acclaimed shorts like The 716th, Alvord continues to push the boundaries of creativity in visual storytelling.
